Today, Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong (SCEH) has officially announced the PlayStation Vita in Singapore. To celebrate the launch, the company is having a road show at 313 Somerset (ground floor) which will end this Sunday.
The Sony PlayStation (PS) Vita was launched in Japan and Hong Kong in December last year. Today, the highly-anticipated handheld game console is officially available in Singapore, which coincide with the launch in Europe, Latin and North America – 23 February. According to Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong, the reason for having the Singapore launch in February and not December, is because the majority of gamers in Singapore prefer English games. And there are approximately 30 English game titles at launch (and growing).
The PS Vita claims to offer users immersive gaming, social connectivity and rich entertainment experience anytime, anywhere. It features a 5-inch OLED multi-touch capacitive touchscreen (960×544) which you can navigate on, aside from the buttons, two analog sticks and D-Pad. The rear also holds a touchpad that provides users with a new way of interacting with the game or application. In the social network space, the PS Vita lets you communicate with your friends through the popular social networking services including Facebook, Flickr, foursquare, Skype, and Twitter.
The PS Vita Wi-Fi model is retailing at S$399 in Singapore, and customers who purchase the console at the designated shops will get a limited edition T-shirt (first come, first served). There will also be a 3G model of the PS Vita, although no official date has been revealed at press time.
Unlike the traditional games that come in Universal Media Discs (UMD) for the PlayStation Portable, the PS Vita games come in the proprietary PlayStation Vita card, which resembles the SD card.
