Sony Ericsson has announced the availability of two new additions to its Xperia line of smartphones, the Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro, for sale in Singapore. According to the company, both the Xperia pro and the Xperia mini pro, which are reportedly designed to offer users a "full multimedia entertainment experience", are backed up by a Qualcomm Snapdragon system-on-a-chip (SoC) which features a CPU clocked at 1GHz for providing their data crunching prowess, and have been preloaded with version 2.3 of the Android operating system (aka Gingerbread).
In addition, Sony Ericsson has confirmed that both the Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro will feature the use of a three-inch "scratch-resistant, multi-touch glass screen" that boasts a native resolution of 320 x 480, and will support the company's Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine technology, a new user interface that reportedly allows for up to 16 apps to be displayed on the home screen, and integration with Facebook via the new Facebook Inside Xperia feature.
That being said, the new Xperia mini pro boasts features which are not present on the Xperia mini, such as the inclusion of a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, Type & Send functionality which is reportedly capable of eliminating the need to open a dedicated app for each type of message, along with Smart Keyboard, which triggers predictive messaging actions automatically when the user slides out the keyboard. In addition, Sony Ericsson has also confirmed that the Xperia mini pro will be pre-loaded with Office Suite and McAfee antivirus to let consumers "manage documents and e-mails instantly and securely while on the move".
The Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro will be available locally from August 5 (which is today) at the recommended retail price of S$458, while its larger counterpart will only hit retail shelves come August 19 at the recommended retail price of S$398.
Last but definitely not least, Sony Ericsson has announced that a special promotion will be held at the Sony Ericsson concept stores from August 19, where consumers who purchase an Xperia mini or Xperia mini pro will be given a free12-inch Smurf plushie.
