This afternoon, Sony Ericsson held a media event to unveil the new Xperia Play, Xperia Arc and Xperia Neo Android smartphones in Singapore. All three smartphones are preloaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will be in stores soon.
"2011 is going to be a very important year for us. In the beginning of the year, we made some announcements in the Xperia range smartphones in the ranks of Arc, Neo and Play. And it is our ambition to achieve the number one position in Android smartphones. We are also among the first to launch Xperia smartphones on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)," said Eugene Goh, deputy general manager and head of Singapore , Sony Ericsson.
Chua Khim Guan, product group marketing manager for Sony Ericsson, also introduced the features of the new Xperia Neo, Xperia Arc and Xperia Play Android smartphones such as the mobile BRAVIA engine and HDMI output.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc hands-on
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc features a large 4.2-inch Reality display with mobile BRAVIA engine. And it runs the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread mobile operating system.
It measures 8.7mm at the thinnest part and on the right, you can find the volume control (and also camera zoom), and a micro USB connector.
At the top are the power button and HDMI connector. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc also features an 8.1-megapixel camera with f/2.4 aperture and high definition recording. It is scheduled to be available at the end of Q1 (which is like end of this month) in midnight blue or misty silver. No word on the pricing though.
