Parting with Ericsson seems to have been a good move by Sony, as so far this year we've seen a big increase in new devices from Sony Mobile and the company has announced its first two LTE equipped handsets, although for the time being they remain exclusive to the Japanese market. The Xperia GX and Xperia SX is the name of the two new Android smartphones which seems to use slightly older Xperia designs.

The Xperia GX and Xperia SX is the name of the two new Android smartphones which seems to use slightly older Xperia designs.

The Xperia GX seems to share its basic curved design with the Xperia Arc, although the front and rear are clearly different, but seems to have a little bit in common with the Xperia S. Feature wise we're looking at a huge 4.6-inch 720p display, a dual core 1.5GHz SoC – presumably from Qualcomm – 16GB of flash memory and a 13Megapixel camera.

The smaller Xperia SX sports a 3.7-inch screen of unknown resolution, the same dual core 1.5GHz SoC, 8GB of flash memory, an 8Megapixel camera, IrDA, mobile wallet and mobile TV –using the Japanese One-Seg standard. The Xperia SX weighs in at a mere 95g which apparently makes it the world's lightest LTE handset.

Common features between the two models include Android 4.0, LTE download speeds of up to 75Mbps, Exmor R camera sensors, HDMI output, DLNA support and the ability to control the phones via the TV remote when connected to a compatible Sony TV. Both models will be available in both black and white and should launch in Japan sometime this summer.
