This just in, Sony Mobile via their YouTube channel have released (and revealed) their next high end smartphone. Dubbed the Xperia ZR, this new phone is being marketed as the water-proof camera phone.
SonyXperia, the official YouTube channel for Sony Mobiles has released videos of the upcoming Xperia ZR smartphone. Dubbed the "water-proof camera-phone", the new Xperia ZR is a close relative to the flagship Xperia Z, packing many of its high end features. But before anything else, here's the official video:
The Sony Xperia ZR comes in the same glass-body design as the Xperia Z. The smartphone is IP55/IP58 certified, making it as good (or rather better) than the Xperia Z when it comes down to dust and water resistance. In fact, the first Xperia ZR video markets the phone heavily as a camera phone that shoots in brilliant HD under water (yea, there's a swimming pool in the video, and a girl so now go watch it!).
From previous leaks and our sources, we have most of the internal specifications of the Xperia ZR.
Sony Xperia ZR Specifications
- Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Chipset
- 1.5 GHz Quad Core Krait CPU
- Adreno 320 GPU
- 2 GB Of RAM
- 4.55 Inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) LCD Display
- Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 2
- 13 MP Sony Exmor RS Rear Camera
- IP55/IP58 Certified
- 2,300 mAh Battery
- Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
Overall the phone looks pretty solid, with specifications that rival the flagship duo from Sony (Z and ZL). We are rather keen on finding out how good (or bad) the ZR display is when it comes to contrast and viewing angles as that is the only let down in an otherwise brilliant phone. Here's hoping that the Xperia ZR isn't plagued by the same issues as it's big brother.
Sony's Xperia ZR should launch later this month, with availability (as our internal sources mention) in major markets by end of May/beginning of June, 2013.
