PlayStation3 Sony PlayStation 3 hacked to play games regardless of firmware

PlayStation3 Sony PlayStation 3 hacked to play games regardless of firmware

At the recent 27th Chaos Communication Conference (27c3), a group of hackers have revealed in their presentation the derivation of the private keys used by the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) game console to sign off on everything, including games. This means that with the private keys, user can run any programs as if they are legit without any issue and regardless of firmware.

Of course, this would also mean that piracy is going to be on the rise for the PS3 and Sony may not be able to do anything about it. While it can choose to use new private keys, the ones already used cannot be revoked without invalidating all the games and downloadable content that were released to date.
