Do you remember one of our earlier posts which stated that 3D Blu-ray will be coming to the PlayStation 3? It seems that Sony has finally got a date ready for the highly-anticipated firmware update that will add such functionality into the console, essentially converting it into an essential part of a home theatre setup.
For those of you who bought your PlayStation 3 console with the intention to have it serve a dual purpose of it being both a video game console and a component for a home-theatre system, now is the time to rejoice. And especially so if you are planning to watch 3D Blu-ray movies on the console anytime soon.
And why is that so? Well, the answer is rather simple: remember the article we posted way back in February about 3D support coming to the console? That feature is now going to make its way into the next firmware update for the console. According to Sony themselves, firmware version 3.50 will be the long-awaited update which adds 3D Blu-ray movie support to the console, and will be released for download on September 21, which is only five days from now.
Of course, it should be noted that the release date was announced “only for the Japanese press” at the Sony TGS conference, so chances are the firmware may take a little longer to reach other regions.
