A teaser image supposedly showing a purple-colored Sony Xperia i1 ‘Honami’ has leaked on a Chinese forum, indicating a September 4th unveiling of the device in Berlin at IFA.
It seems Sony will holds its IFA press conference on September 4 (the same day Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note III, and possibly a smartwatch) to unveil its upcoming Honami handset, according to an image that has leaked and is supposedly the official teaser image of the device, which is also rumored to go to market as the “Xperia i1.”
Whether the picture is real or not is something that can’t be confirmed, but it does show a purple-colored Honami that looks a bit different from the previous images of the device – it basically looks thinner and more rounded, though that could be an effect of the angle of the picture. The rounded power button that we’ve seen on the Xperia Z Ultra is present on the side, along with what could be a microSD / SIM slot, and purple volume rockers.
The image originated on Chinese forum Digi-wo, and the original poster claims that a Chinese release will be taking place quite soon after the Berlin announcement, which we hope will be the case for a launch in other markets as well. However, it seems unlikely Sony would choose the same date as Samsung to unveil its next hero device, so take the September 4 date (and the teaser image) with a pinch of salt until more concrete details emerge.
As a refresher, the Honami is expected to dazzle with a 20-megapixel CyberShot camera with G Lens, a Snapdragon 800 CPU, a 5-inch 1080p display, and a refreshed Sony UI. The camera will supposedly offer image quality superior to anything we’ve seen from Android handsets until now, with a plethora of new and unique features that we’ve seen in detail in leaked pictures.
