A fresh rumor hints that Sony’s upcoming (and first) Xperia phablet codenamed Togari will pack a 6.4″ 1080p display which will be able to use a pencil as a stylus.

Sony Xperia L4 Togari Sony Xperia L4 Togari phablet with 6.4 1080p display might use pencil as stylus?

A stylus was a common add-on to first generation smartphones, back when resistive touch displays (pressure sensitive) were in fashion. In came the superior (ion conductance based) capacitive touch displays and the stylus was out of fashion. Fast forward to the launch of the Galaxy Note, the Samsung product that single handedly carved out a niche for its own category (namely phablets), as well as brought the stylus back in action.

A fresh report suggests that Sony’s upcoming phablet codenamed Togari (also the company’s first phablet) will feature a stylus for sure, but a different kind. The report says that Togari (or Xperia L4) will support the use of pencils on its 6.4 inch massive display. A pencil will surely allow for accurate writing, but we don’t think that the residue or marks left by the pencil on the screen will please anyone. Nevertheless it’s an interesting concept, one that we haven’t heard of before.

Sony’s Xperia L4 a.k.a. Togari is slated to launch sometime in Q3 2013. Togari is said to be powered by a Snapdragon 800 chipset powering its massive 6.4 inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display that may or may not support Sony’s new Triluminos technology.
