Official: Sony Xperia Z and Nokia Lumia 925 landing on T-Mobile July 17
They’ve both been a long time coming, they will both be available exclusively via T-Mobile in the US and they are both seeing daylight come July 17. No prizes for guessing what devices I’m talking about, as it is fairly obvious – Sony’s Xperia Z and Nokia’s Lumia 925.
The Xperia Z is the slightly “older” fellow of the two, having been unveiled way back in January 2013 and making its way through Europe and Asia starting a month later. But while it’s a little disappointing to only see it now in the land of the free, the Z is anything but outdated.
True, the big guy’s display has been put through a lot of scrutiny for what many consider to be sub-par viewing angles and poor color reproduction, but if you’re willing to overlook that particular flaw you’ll end up with a very solid high-end offering.
Thin and elegant, but also robust and resistant to water and dust, the Z packs quad-core heat courtesy of a Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, plus 2 GB of RAM, a generous 2,330 mAh battery, excellent 13 MP camera and expandable storage.
And all that’s going to set you back a modest $99.99 upfront via T-Mo, plus 24 monthly payments of $20 each, which on the whole comes down to 580 bucks. Not to mention that, if you hurry and pre-order an Xperia Z on July 16, you will be eligible for a special gift: a free Sony Wireless Bluetooth Speaker.
Not too shabby, but if that pricing structure doesn’t work for you, maybe Lumia 925’s will. One of Nokia’s current top dogs (at least until the “EOS” becomes official), this thing costs $49.99 upfront, plus the same $20 monthly payments. In total, that means you’ll pay $529.99 for the 4.5-incher, which is not a bad deal.
Not a bad deal at all, given the 925 comes with an 8 MP cam with OIS in tow, super-slim profile (for a Windows Phone), dual-core 1.5 GHz CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 2,000 mAh battery, 4G LTE, NFC and a 1,280 x 768 pix res AMOLED screen.
