Sony Xperia Z1 Mini (aka Honami Mini) poses for the camera, CES 2014 intro in the cards
As much as tech aficionados would have loved to see both the Honami (aka Xperia Z1) and Honami Mini made official during last week’s IFA, the latter skipped the Berlin event so as not to steal its bigger brother’s thunder.
But the high-end 4.3-incher is still coming. Only its unveiling is now tipped to go down no earlier than next January, at CES in Las Vegas. Big bummer, I know, though it could have been worse. The Honami Mini could have turned out to be a figment of some tipsters’ imagination. Or it could have seen daylight at IFA, but with sub-par hardware. Wouldn’t that have been a much bigger tragedy?
And besides, the “news” about the Xperia Z1 Mini only landing next year can still be filed under gossip. Especially since two legit-looking pics of the device have leaked to the press in the past 24 hours.
The first seems to show off the phone’s hollow front panel, complete with pretty thick bezels and an overall vibe that very nicely falls in line with Z1’s external look. There’s of course no way to know for sure we’re looking at a Z1 Mini panel, but the size, design language, rectangular body and lack of any kind of curves sure make this leak look credible at a first glance.
Moving on, there’s also a snapshot of an alleged Honami Mini in purple alongside the bigger Xperia Z1 in both black and purple. Again, no certain way of telling this is the real deal, especially since all three gizmos are photographed from the back, but unless the image has been doctored, I can’t think of another Sony phone that could so closely resemble the company’s latest flagship.
Remember, the Xperia makers are allegedly planning to cut no corners in the making of the Z1 Mini (save for the size), with the rumored list of features including everything that makes the bigger Z1 so cool. Namely, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, 20.7 MP camera with G Lens and 2 GB of RAM. January 2014 can’t come soon enough, eh?
