Sony Xperia Z1S (aka Z1 mini) shows up in the flesh, November 12 intro now a near certainty
All hail the first “maxi” phone wrapped in a “mini” package. Rumored for many months to be called Xperia Z1 mini, but ultimately likely to be released under the Z1S moniker. And as transparent as glass following an @evleaked presser and live image accidentally slipped by Sony.
The first photo that actually shows the “international” Xperia Z1S running in the wild falls perfectly in line with the press shot surfaced a few days ago, starring a handheld that’s not exactly the cover story for elegance.
Yet it’s what’s on the inside that counts, and chances are the Z1S won’t make any compromises, packing the same exact quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU and 2 GB RAM as its big brother, the Z1. And a state-of-the-art 20.7 MP rear-facing camera. And a hefty 2,300 mAh battery.
But hold on for a second. How can we be so sure we’re looking at the Z1S and not the Z1 f introduced already in Japan? Easy, there’s no trace of NTT DoCoMo branding anywhere on the handheld’s body, plus the front-facing cam placement appears to be different.
Granted, that could be the result of expert Photoshop work, but why would anyone go through all the trouble when the cat’s been out of the bag for ages? Exactly.
The timing of the disclosure is likewise a precious piece of info hinting at it all being the real deal, as it was less than 48 hours ago when we reported Sony was covertly sending out press invites for a November 12 event. Guess it’s crystal clear now who’ll be one of the stars of the party. By the by, Sony, you forgot about our invitation. Don’t worry, we’ll RSVP as soon as we get it.
