Sony’s original SmartWatch didn’t exactly set the world on fire but there is still time to improve as the market hasn’t been captured by anyone just yet. Maybe the second time is the charm.
The original SmartWatch from Sony received some pretty tepid reviews from outlets across the internet. It was a modest attempt at being early to a market that hasn’t been shaped yet. This time around with the SmartWatch 2, Sony has taken to refining their previous ideas into a product that that is better in just about every way. It receives NFC capabilities for one touch sharing, a higher resolution display, a bigger display, better battery life, improved UI, and even more apps that come pre-installed for your use. Check out the video for the SmartWatch 2 below.
To get more specific, the screen size has bumped up to 1.6 inches where the reduced bezel is definitely a welcome sight. The resolution has been bumped up to 220 x 176 as well. Sony is also boasting that the watch is water resistant and also has the best battery life of any smartwatch on the market. Although there will be no compatibility with other mobile operating systems, they have improved Android compatibility and also have changed the UI to something that resembles it even more.
As for availability, Sony will be releasing the SmartWatch 2 in September around the world but have not yet offered any idea as to what the price might be. The smartwatch market is set to get more crowded so Sony has a steep climb ahead of them if they want to gain any market share before anyone else does. It remains to be seen if this will be the one that does it for them.
