The Galaxy S5 mini will feature a 4.5-inch 720p screen, 1.5 GB RAM, 16 gigs of storage and a quad-core Snapdragon 400 CPU.

Samsung rivals

Samsung is set to continue the trend of offering mini versions of its flagship handset with the Galaxy S5 mini. The device will feature a model number SM-G800 and comes with a 4.5-inch screen. The Super AMOLED display is a 720p variant. Under the hood, the Galaxy S5 mini features a quad-core Snapdragon 400.

Other hardware details include 1.5 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage, 8 MP camera at the back and a 2 MP shooter at the front, 2,100 mAh battery and an IR blaster. The Galaxy S5 mini will likely be certified IP67, just like the Galaxy S5. The device will run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and will feature Samsung’s redesigned user interface. The device is allegedly slated to launch in the month of June.

Although the pricing details haven’t been divulged, the Galaxy S5 mini will likely be targeted at the mid-range segment. Barring Sony, all manufacturers seem to be intent on launching watered down versions of their flagship devices as mini variants. There does seem to be a market for small form factored devices with high-end features, but for now, the Xperia Z1 Compact is the only mobile that is available in this segment.
