Shenzhen, China recently lost one of its own to a sudden appearance of a four stories deep sinkhole, which is a growing concern for all Chinese residence in general as the country is continuing to collapse under its own poorly planned infrastructures.
The huge sinkhole, measuring 16-feet-by-26-feet wide, swallowed up a passerby as he was strolling along. As tragic as the event was for the man and his family, the recent Shenzhen sinkhole is just one of the 200 to 300+ sinkholes that have been regularly appearing since 2007 in China. One estimate even suggested that between July 21 and August 12, 2012, 99 sinkhole collapses occurred in Beijing.
China is one of the top economies in the world, and due to the rapid expansion the populace has to put up with poorly planned infrastructures. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, but the locals have reported that a nearby construction site has been causing tremors.
