The beauty of solar power is that it’s free, and the only trouble is concocting contraptions to harness the rays.  Don Cayelli recently posted his SunVolt solar contraption on Kickstarter, and unlike other mobile solar charging units, the SunVolt promises charging speed that’s outlet-like.

Aside from the outlet-like charging speed, the unit utilizes monocrystalline photovoltaic panels which are more efficient than the newer and cheaper polycrystalline alternative. The unit comes packaged to look like a messenger bag, and when duty calls, the bag conveniently folds into a triangular stand that can tilt accordingly to better absorb the sun’s energy.

A powerful battery pack can also be used in conjunction with the SunVolt to store excess capacity for use indoor or when the sun is not out.

The SunVolt will be available in 10 and 15 watt sizes, and the difference is the 15 watt model is capable of charging three mobile devices at once, whereas, the 10 watt model can only charge two devices.  Common USB charging interfaces will be shipped with the SunVolt, and plugs that aren’t as common, the maker claims that there will be a website for people to purchase hard to find plugs for USD $5.95.

Cayelli also promises lifetime warranties on all his SunVolts, and according to him, “A great product deserves a great warranty.”

Backers that pledge $85 or more will receive the 10W SunVolt once a consumer product is ready.
