Following a court settlement, the popular BitTorrent website isoHunt is to be closed down and it’s owner, Gary Fung, told to pay $100 million to the Motion Picture Association of America.
The RIAA has just become the world’s largest sender of DMCA notices for the music industry, with their latest batch of take-down notices bringing the total above 25 million.
Gottfrid Warg, who co-founded the controversial file sharing torrent site, The Pirate Bay, was recently sentenced to two years in prison. Warg was charged and convicted with acting on illegal money transfers on-line and hacking into a Sweden-based computer system that stored and managed data for Swedish authorities.
Gottfrid Svartholm, Pirate Bay’s founder, is at risk of being extradited to Denmark for hacking allegations, which only adds to the mountain of worries as his court proceeding in Sweden hasn’t exactly gone in his favor.
