You know how there’s a small tech-focused event going on these days in Berlin, Germany and called IFA? Everybody that’s somebody in the mobile business is there to impress us with “innovations” and “upgrades”, save for Xiaomi, the Chinese OEM that’s recently snatched Hugo Barra from Google.
We always knew one or more of China’s big smartphone players were going to step up their game and become a real menace for Samsung and HTC before long. But probably not many would have counted on it being Xiaomi.
Remember that crazy rumor about Xiaomi prepping an upper mid-range phone with 720p display, quad-core processor and $160 price tag? Well, it’s a rumor no more. And it gets better, as the Red Rice is reportedly set to go on sale for an incredible Yuan 799 ($130) after all.
Busy is just one way to describe Xiaomi, as the Chinese OEM is said to be working hard on at least two new phones, plus its first ever tablet. And while the launches of the Mi3, Red Rice and MiPad might still be a while, the trio sure knows how to keep us interested.
It’s been unusually quiet on the Xiaomi front lately, with only a couple of rumors hitting the mainstream media, but it won’t be long until the Chinese company will once again capture the headlines day in and day out.
