Taiwan’s government is planning to establish new standards for the smart lighting industry in hopes of expanding demands for Taiwan’s light emitting diode (LED) lighting products.

Taiwan’s government is planning to establish new standards for the smart lighting industry in hopes of expanding demands for Taiwan’s light emitting diode (LED) lighting products.

According to Focus Taiwan, there will be five new sets of standards for Taiwan’s LED products, and all of them have been approved by Taiwan’s six major lighting associations.

The new standards are presumed to improve the efficiency of lighting management, improve safety during nighttime activities, create energy saving and smart lighting environment, and explore value-added opportunities globally.

Prices of LED lighting products have fallen 20 to 30 percent following a global drop of 40 percent last year, and for the first time, the price of an LED light bulb equivalent to a 40-watt incandescent bulb has fallen below USD $10.

Low prices for LED lighting products in the U.S. could possibly mean that demands may increase drastically.  Therefore, Taiwan is hoping that it can be at the forefront of it all through the state-established standards.
