Tesla, according to its CEO Elon Musk, is exploring pickup trucks as another mean of convincing gas-pumpers to step over to the other side.
Musk said that the Tesla trucks will mimic the physiques of Ford’s F-150 line, and that his company may out such a product in five years. Commercial trucks, however, doesn’t seem like it’s a priority on Tesla’s agenda as Musk has already stated that the market opportunity in that particular area is too small for Tesla.
Imitation is the best form of flattery and perhaps the quickest way to success for Tesla if it plans on adding trucks to its portfolio. According to a report, the F-150 is among the best-selling vehicle in the United States, past and present.
While Musk’s proposal for the Hyperloop system won’t make too much of an impact on the transportation industry in the near future, perhaps an electric truck that’s capable of hauling might.
