Every man deserves listening to good music, and by the word ‘good’, we mean the quality of the sound that is transmitted to your ears. No matter how great a piece of music is, without the right headphones, all it sounds is nothing but trash.

By today’s standard, people’s preception of audio has evolved, just imagine listening to Mozart’s Opera with a pair of poorly made headphones – screeching highs churned out by the overworked drivers and the ever-booming bass that makes you feel your head is about to explode – you will surely go ‘eek!’, and that’s not an understatement.

No longer are we satisfied with low audio quaility while listening to our favourite music, we want better! And with a little seeking for this small indulgence, we have headphones produced by AKG Acoustics.

Looking the K514 and K701 impedance and sensitivity, we have no qualms that K514 is able to run off any portable players, such as the iPods, but the K701 may require a little more juice to drive them as well as the K514. Theortically, both headphones will not really require a amp to drive them,  but they can surely reap the benefit of one.

 


 

Setting Up…

 

While we are not doing an A/B audition test on the 2 headphones from AKG Acoustics, we still very much perfer to keep both of them on the same testing platform.

Having said that, lets take a look at our audition setup,

  • Dell Latitude D630 laptop as our source,
  • Zero DAC with an integrated headphone amp, and
  • foobar2000 as our source player.

As with any other audio equipment, we agreed that these headphones should have a break-in period, known as burning in, in order to enjoy them at their fullest potential. As much as time permits, we are sadly, but gladly, able to let both headphones clock some 30 hours of burning in. To many audiophiles, 30 hours of burning in may be deemed to little to have much of an effect of the headphones, but time isn’t always on our side unfortunately.
