Over the weekend, Thermaltake launched its Muse 5G line of HDD/SSD enclosures. Available in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch variants, the new enclosures feature slick brushed-aluminum finish, and USB 3.0 SuperSpeed interface.

The Muse 5G 2.5-inch variant is designed for 9.5 mm-thick (or less) hard drives or solid-state drives in the 2.5-inch form-factor, with internal SATA 6 Gb/s interface. The enclosure is bus-powered, and relies on a single USB cable for both power and host connectivity. The enclosure connects to the host over USB 3.0 SuperSpeed 5 GT/s interface. Its design suits pockets and bags better.

The Muse 5G 3.5-inch, on the other hand, is designed for HDDs and SSDs in the 3.5-inch form-factor, smaller form-factors will work, too, but could require adapters. Unlike the Muse 5G 2.5-inch, this variant requires external DC power input, and includes a power adapter to do the job. Like its sibling, it supports SATA 6 Gb/s interface for the drives it encloses, and connects to the host machine with USB 3.0 SuperSpeed 5 GT/s interface.

Installing/removing the enclosed drive isn't a tool-free process on the 2.5-inch variant, as it requires unscrewing lids. Thermaltake does, however, include a screwdriver. With the 3.5-inch vatiant, a switch holds the lid in place, making it tool-free.

Measuring 126 x 79 x 18.5 mm, the 2.5-inch Muse 5G weighs about 97 g (dry weight). The 3.5-inch variant, on the other hand, measures 203 x 118 x 55 mm, weighing 350 g. Brushed aluminum makes up the top and bottom panels, while ABS plastic makes up the frame, for both variants.

Thermaltake did not give out pricing information, but indicated that this is a global launch.
