Rumors of a Galaxy S4 variant called the “Galaxy S4 Active” have finally been confirmed to be true, as all new photos of the device have emerged online.
While Apple and Sony tend to follow a “less is more” approach to their smartphone lineup which for now consists only of mid to high-end smartphones, Samsung believes that true success lies in penetrating each and every segment of the smartphone market. The Korean company makes $15 call and text phones, $650 high-end smartphones and everything else in between.
Now, Samsung is taking things one step further by making variants of the same phone targeted at different niches in the high-end smartphone market.
The first ever photos of the ruggedized, dustproof and waterproof Galaxy S 4 Active GT-9295 have appeared online at GSMArena. The phone’s overall dimensions match that of the Galaxy S 4, but its looks are noticeably different with an eye-catching red color, (likely decorative) screws on the back, and hard Menu, Home and Back buttons instead of the usual capacitive plus hard button combination.
Specs-wise, the Galaxy S 4 Active will come with a quad-core Snapdragon CPU clocked at 1.9GHz along with an Adreno 320 GPU, and a 5” Full HD display. The only downgrade is the rear camera which will take photos at 8 megapixel resolution instead of the ultra-sharp 13 megapixel shots its brother is famous for.
Samsung is expected to officially announce the Galaxy S 4 Active in a few days’ time.
