25 TITAN Vanessa Heatpipe CPU Coolers

With overclocking
becoming a commonplace, we find thermal solutions to increase in variety and
effectiveness. Whilst watercooling might become a practical thermal management
solution in the future, forced-air cooling remains the dominant method of cooling
microprocessors of today. We take a look at 2 CPU Coolers from Titan, the Vanessa sisters…

CPU technology is advancing so very rapidly that many of
us would have forgotten the days when CPUs would chug along happily without
any heatsink at all. With Moore’s Law ticking in the background of Personal
Computing, we find CPUs sporting double the number of transistors of their predecessors
every 18 months or so. As the manufacturing process shrinks and leakage current
increases, today’s microprocessors are producing more heat than ever before.
Ironically, the process shrink leads to CPUs having a smaller die to dissipate
heat. Better heatsinks have to be used, and many are forced to adopt furiously
fast fans on heatsinks to move heat, resulting in excessive noise and vibration.
Thermal management is often the key to ensuring system stability in Personal
Computers, and is the main factor behind hardware longevity. With overclocking
becoming a commonplace, we find thermal solutions to increase in variety and
effectiveness. Whilst watercooling might become a practical thermal management
solution in the future, forced-air cooling remains the dominant method of cooling
microprocessors of today. Although overclocking friends may find a need for
sub-ambient cooling for the extra clock speed, recent CPU revisions have been
found to be relatively afraid of low temperatures. Condensation and CPU “flu”
put together seldom equates to a stable computing setup. For now, forced air
cooling remains the easiest to setup, simplest to maintain, and is relatively
cost effective.

Today, we are honored to bring to you, our loyal readers, a review of two unique products from Titan. Both products are supposed to bring
together two contradictory factors: improved cooling, and reduced noise. In
the following pages, we shall see if such promises hold true. Best of all, there’s
a feminine twist to these products, referred to by their maker as “Vanessa.”
