After the not-so-exciting “Thrive” and “Excite” line of products in 2012, Toshiba is back with three new Android tablets. The more interesting two of those three pack Nvidia’s Tegra 4 chipset under the hood.

Say hello to the Toshiba Excite Pure, Excite Pro and Excite Write (in increasing order of specifications superiority), three 10-inch plastic-build tablets running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Toshiba Excite Pure

The Excite Pure is the lowest-end model among the three newly introduced tablets. Carrying yesteryear’s Tegra 3 chipset, the Excite Pure comes with a relatively low-resolution display, Gorilla Glass 1 and no rear camera.

Toshiba Excite Pure Quick Specs:

  • Nvidia Tegra 3 Chipset
  • 10.1-inch WXGA (1280 x 800) Display
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 1
  • 16 GB Internal Storage
  • Micro SD Card Slot
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

Toshiba plans to market the Excite Pure as a budget 10-inch tablet, and rightly so. The Excite Pure will launch for as low as $300. If Toshiba gets it right with this tablet, we could have a new budget 10-inch hero with us.

Toshiba Excite Pro

The Excite Pro is a step above the Excite Pure. First and foremost, the Excite pro packs Nvidia’s latest Tegra 4 chipset. While we haven’t seen it in action yet, leaked benchmark numbers from a couple of months ago revealed explosive performance, perhaps just enough to beat Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 800 chipset as well (we’ll find out more as this month progresses).

Toshiba Excite Pro Quick Specs:

  • Nvidia Tegra 4 Chipset
  • 10.1-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) Display
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 2
  • 8 MP Rear Camera
  • Harman Kardon Sound
  • 32 GB Internal Storage
  • Micro SD Card Slot
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

The Toshiba Excite Pro is certainly a Pro tablet, with a display resolution four times that of the Excite Pure. We can only hope that the new 72-core GPU in Nvidia’s Tegra 4 chipset is up for the challenge. On the multimedia front, we have an 8 MP rear camera and Harman Kardon sound support. The 300 ppi display is protected by Gorilla Glass 2.

Toshiba has priced the Excite Pro at $500, putting it under direct line-of-fire from the Google Nexus 10. For what it’s worth, the Excite Pro looks superior to the Nexus 10 in every front from our point-of-view. This tablet will certainly give head-on competition to the iPad and the Asus Transformer Pad.

Toshiba Excite Write

The Excite Write is the most premium of tablets announced by Toshiba today. While being every-bit identical to the Excite Pro in terms of internal specifications, the Excite Write differs when it comes to (you guessed it right) support for a stylus or pen. Just like its name suggests, the Excite Write comes with Wacom digitizer and supports 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity.

Toshiba Excite Write Quick Specs:

  • Nvidia Tegra 4 Chipset
  • 10.1-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) Display
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 2
  • 8 MP Rear Camera
  • Harman Kardon Sound
  • 32 GB Internal Storage
  • Micro SD Card Slot
  • Wacom Digitizer
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

To complement the stylus, Toshiba has included two exclusive apps that make use of the same, namely TruNote and TruCapture. We expect the Excite Write to go on sale for roughly $600, a bargain for a tablet so feature rich.
