Toshiba launches Android Smartbook series – AC100 and AS100
Yesterday, Toshiba Singapore unveiled their new Android Smartbook series, the AC100 and AS100, designed for mobile professionals as secondary computing device. Both Smartbooks are extremely lightweight and portable, and offer 10.1-inch WXGA display.
This year is Toshiba’s 25th anniersary in the mobile computing business and in August, the manufacturer announced the Libretto W100 And Portege R700 as part of the celebration. But the celebration hasn’t exactly finished just yet. Yesterday, the Japanese company had another event and Tay Choon Song, Senior Manager of Marketing Services and e-Business, Toshiba Computer Systems Division, announced the two new Android devices – AC100 and AS100.
“The big question is ‘Why Android?’. If you look at GFK data, for smartphones in Southeast Asia, the marketshare for Q1 2009 to Q1 2010 went from 16% to 36%. Out of the 36%, a huge percentage actually comes from Android. We believe that the demand for Android devices is very strong, and Toshiba will miss the boat if we didn’t have products based on the Android platform,” says Tay.
The slim and stylish Toshiba AC100 (abbreviation for Android Clamshell 100) is powered by 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 250 and features a QWERTY keyboard for users who prefer typing instead of onscreen keyboard. Well, unfortunately, this one isn’t a touchscreen.
On the left are the HDMI out, 3.5mm headphone/micropone connector, and a SD/MMC card slot.
The right holds the USB 2.0, mini USB, power jack and a Kensington lock hole for security.
