Toshiba launches BookPlace DB50 Android ebook reader in Japan

Toshiba has announced the launch of their BookPlace DB50 Android ebook reader in Japan. The DB50 has a 7-inch LCD display, is powered by a 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB storage, and boasts 7.5 hours of battery life.

Toshiba has launched the 7-inch BookPlace DB50 ebook reader in Japan. BookPlace is also the name of the ebook store the company is operating, with ebooks for both the Android and Windows platforms available for purchase. According to Toshiba, there are three appealing points for mainstream consumers to consider this ebook reader - content, price and usability. The BookPlace boasts 50,000 books and would reach 100,000 by end March. Price of the standalone BookPlace DB50 is 17,000 yen (US$220), but the ebook reader will retail at 22,000 yen (US$285) with 5,000 yen worth of credits for purchasing of ebooks. The DB50 is easy to use and comes with a home and back buttons for going to the home screen and return to last, respectively.
