Celebrity endorsement might have not helped HTC’s dwindling financials too much (mostly because the Taiwanese only made one commercial starring Robert Downey Jr.), but that’s not stopping Samsung from adding LeBron James to its already impressive partner roster.
And unlike football star Lionel Messi, who basically does nothing in his own Galaxy Note 3 ad, the double NBA champion and four-time league MVP is doing plenty in the 2-minute clip embedded below.
He does physical training, handles two basketballs with both hands at the same time (pretty impressive, eh?), watches game footage on a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 (that’s one), scribbles plays on the same tab, snaps a pic with a Galaxy Gear (that’s two), then showcases each and every differently colored smartwatch, takes some selfies with a Note 3 (so three) and gets golf instructions from actor and comedian Kevin Hart (?!?).
He follows that with a couple of other neat ball tricks (see Samsung, that’s what you should have asked Messi to do) and wraps it all up with another GNote 3 cameo and a (more or less) inspirational speech about family and friendship. Oh, and his little boy makes a basket towards the end “for the NBA championship”. Aww, right?
Well, you know, it’s not my all-time favorite among Samsung’s advertisements (the Apple jabs remain the most delicious, amusing and witty), but it once again shows why the Koreans are bound to remain the heavyweight champs of the Android landscape for a long, long time.
And remember, this is only the beginning, as the Galaxy makers have inked a three-year deal with the NBA, ensuring their tablets and TVs will be quite visible during every major basketball game going on in the US of A… and Canada. Now that’s a big coup and, despite coughing up $100 million to get it done, it’s guaranteed to massively boost Sammy’s revenues and especially brand awareness.
