Tyan announces new series Nforce 4 boards for Opterons

On the 20th of December 2004, Tyan along with AMD and Nvdia announced their new range of Nforce 4 motherboards at a press conference in Beijing. Tyan, renowned for their boards for AMD Opteron processors, proudly displayed their solutions for the desktop, workstation and server market to the press.

On the 20th of December 2004, Tyan along with AMD and Nvdia announced their new range of Nforce 4 motherboards at a press conference in Beijing. Tyan, renowned for their boards for AMD Opteron processors, proudly displayed their solutions for the desktop, workstation and server market to the press. SLI(Scalable Link Interfae) capable boards for the AMD Opteron processor captured the limelight of the night.

The Tyan Thunder S2895, featuring 2 nvidia nf4 pro chip onboard offers 2x PCI-E x16 slots unlike offerings from other manufacturers, where the the 2x PCI-E slot used for SLI are actually a x16 scaled down to a x8. This enables the board to fully exploit the bandwidth capabilities of the SLI link interface. Along with 1x PCI-X 64bit/133MHz slot, 2x PCI-X 64bit/100MHz slot and 1 PCI 32bit slot, the board kept it’s versatality without compromising its performance.

Other features on the board includes 4 SATA connectors supporting RAID, Firewire, 2x Gigabit LAN onboard, and the optional LSI U320 Dual Channel SCSI (S2895UA2NRF). Other boards launched includs the Thunder S2892 for Opterons and the S2885 for AMD Athlon 64.
