According to several trustworthy sources, HTC is currently working on a "phablet" going by the codename T6. The device could sport a 6-inch screen, but nothing else is known about it at this time.
Despite bringing the tech world the first ever 5-inch Full HD smartphone last year (the J Butterfly, aka Droid DNA, aka Butterfly), HTC has never looked like an adherent to the “bigger is better” creed that seems to dominate the mobile universe nowadays.
The company’s latest flagship, dubbed simply One, is probably the smallest high-end Android around, sporting a 4.7-inch display, compared with the 5-inch Galaxy S4 or 5.5-inch LG Optimus G Pro. Not to mention Huawei’s 6.1-inch Ascend Mate.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean HTC’s long-term future plans include only smallish handhelds. Quite on the contrary, if we are to believe EvLeaks’ latest tweet. According to the notorious tipster, HTC is indeed working on a “phablet”, known at the moment only by a mysterious codename – T6.
This doesn’t exactly connect with any of HTC’s current or past used codenames, so chances are the T6 will not follow One’s design philosophy and instead be the starting point of a whole new family of smartphones. But where would that leave the rumored larger version of the One?
No idea, but here’s another good guesstimate I think one could make based on the “T6” moniker – the “phablet” will sport a 6-inch display, which would put it in the same league as the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3, also rumored to be a 6-incher.
The last nugget of info concerning this HTC T6 comes our way via HTC Soku, the website that’s apparently tracked down several model numbers and nicknames used for the phablet’s supposed different versions:
T6_UL: cassiopeia Communication system: GSM / WCDMA / LTE
T6_U: columba Communication system: GSM / WCDMA
T6_ULA: delphinus Communication system: GSM / WCDMA / LTE
T6_WL: crater Communication method: GSM/WCDMA/CDMA2000/LTE
T6_WHL: eridanus Communication method: GSM/WCDMA/CDMA2000/LTE
So what do you guys think are HTC's plans for the T6? Will this be a One Mega or something of a different vibe than the company's current spearhead? Maybe the HTC Two? Sound off in the comments section below.
