US Relaxes Control Over Internet

Reported by on Tuesday, September 29 2009 6:53 pm

BBC news has reported that the US government is relaxing its control over the internet. Icann, a not-for-profit private sector corporation set up by the US government, oversees the internet structure and is due to sign a new agreement with the US government on Wednesday. It is believed that the new agreement will give Icann more independence and make Icann universally accountable to the global internet community. It is interesting to learn that Icann regulates parts of the internet and stuff like the “top-level domain (TLD) name system” (Top level domains include .com and .uk) actually comes under its purview!
