The VAB-800 from VIA is driven by either VIA's own WonderMedia 800 MHz or Freescale 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 SoCs, backed by 1 GB of DDR3 memory, 64 GB eMMC flash memory, and a SATA 3 Gb/s port to expand its storage. Either of the two SoC choices, according to VIA, pack integrated graphics capable of 1080p video playback.

The VAB-800 comes with a plethora of connectivity options, including several interfaces that PC users might be familiar with. For starters, its rear panel features its two external display outputs, D-Sub (VGA) and mini-HDMI, placed next to a couple of USB 2.0 ports, and an RJ-45 jack, backed by a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet controller. On the obverse side of the PCB, you'll find a standard HD audio front-panel header, SDIO and GPIO headers. The reverse side of the PCB holds a pair of LVDS headers, to connect with internal flat-panel screens (in case of notebooks and all-in-one desktops).
