Over at Computex, we spotted a very cool embedded solution from VIA which features Dual VIA Eden-N processors on board, CN400 chipset as well as VT8237. This board is based on Mini-ITX form factor and has onboard graphics, sound and up to 3 lan ports. Check out more details on this board now.
We spotted a very cool embedded solution from VIA which features
Dual VIA Eden-N processors on board, CN400 North Bridge as well as VT8237
Southbridge. This board is based on Mini-ITX form factor (17x17cm) and has
triple LAN ports, onboard S3 UniChrome Pro IGP graphics core, onboard VIA Vinyl
Six-TRAC VT1616 audio codec chip for 6-channel audio, 2 DIMM slots for up to 2GB
DDR400/333/266 memories, 1 PCI slot, one IDE port, 2 SATA ports featuring
integrated RAID 0/1/0+1/JBOD support.
At the back of the board, there is a VIA Networking Velocity
VT6122 Gigabit Ethernet Controller based on a small form factor 14x14mm low pin
count body size that helps simplify signal routing, minimize board routing area,
resulting in a cost-effective board implementation. On the front of the board,
there is another LAN controllers from Intel for 10/100Mbps Ethernet. There is also another RJ-45 port that is
inactivated, and can be used upon installation of another mini PCI LAN card.
The mini PCI slot can also be used for wireless LAN cards such as Wireless A, B or G,
or ABG. This means that this board together with a mini PCI wireless LAN card
can offer a 10/100 Ethernet, one Gigabit Ethernet and wireless LAN
There are Dual VIA Eden ESP N10K processors on board and they
are based on the 0.13 micron C5P Nehemiah core featuring the tiny nanoBGA
package at 15mm x 15mm. The VIA Eden ESP N10K processor is clocked at 1Ghz
(133Mhz x 7.5X) running at a mere 1V and tops out at 7W at 1Ghz, 5W at 800Mhz
and 2.5W at 533Mhz TDP. The VIA Eden-N includes support for VIA PowerSaver 3.0
technology to dynamically alters the voltage and clock frequency to reduce power
consumption when the processor is not required to run at full speed. As such, a
tiny heatsink with small fan is all that is needed to cool down the dual
VIA CN400 chipset is cooled by a low profile chipset sink and it
is integrated with S3 Graphics UniChrome Pro IGP graphics core featuring
Chromotion CE Video Display engine with hardware MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 acceleration
as well as DVI/HDTV support. The CN400 can support up to 4GB of DDR400 memory
and a Ultra V-link interface of up to 1GB/s. Coupled with a VIA VT8237R South
Bridge, the VIA CN400 Serial ATA capabilities with V-RAID for RAID 0, RAID 1 and
RAID+1 arrays as well as support for VIA Vinyl Audio 6 channel audio.
