VIA Technologies, VIA's subsidiary, is preparing to release the VL750 SuperSpeed USB to NAND Flash controller.
The chip, planned for use in the next generation of USB flash drives, is touted to support transfer speeds over 100Mb/s. It features a four channel design (for increased data throughput), global wear-leveling, ECC, and supports BOT (Bulk-Only Transport), UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol standards), and 30nm and 20nm-class NAND memory chips. VLI has recently sampled the VL750 chips and USB flash drives incorporating them are expected to start shipping come early 2011.
“VIA Labs is ahead of the pack by some distance when it comes to offering a complete USB 3.0 eco-system that now includes host, hub and NAND flash controller products,” said David Hsu, Associate Vice President, VIA Labs, Inc.
