Western Digital Enters Solid State Drive Market

Western Digital have announced today that it will be entering the solid state drive (SSD) market with a acquisition of SiliconSystems Inc.With the acquisition to be immediate, SiliconSystems will operate as WD’s Solid-State Storage business unit, similar to the existing business units of Branded Products, Client Storage, Consumer Storage, and Enterprise Storage.

Western Digital have announced today that it will be entering the solid state drive (SSD) market with a acquisition of SiliconSystems Inc.

The acquisition which was completed at a $65 million will boost WD's storage industry leadership, worldwide infrastructure, and technical and financial resources that will also enable further growth in SiliconSystems' existing markets and customer relationships.

With the acquisition to be immediate, SiliconSystems will operate as WD’s Solid-State Storage business unit, similar to the existing business units of Branded Products, Client Storage, Consumer Storage, and Enterprise Storage.
