There will be a Wii U press event on September 13 in New York, and chances are Nintendo will give everyone some sort of scoop on the upcoming Wii U including its launch date.  Until then, however, let’s delve into the speculated launch dates.

Previously, many sources speculated a November 18 launch date, but a recent listing on Video Product Distributors—a company that supplies Amazon, Blockbuster, and Overstock—suggested otherwise.  Three Wii U SKUs were listed on VPD that provided a November 11, which is a week before the previously rumored date.

The following SKUs were listed:

WIIU SYSTEM – GM – 11/11/12 $249.99
WIIU SYSTEM W/ – GM – 11/11/12 $299.99
WIIU SYSTEM 349 W/ – GM – 11/11/12 $349.99

The price differences are probably to accommodate the different packages (extra controllers, games, etc.)  Here’s a video of the page that has the SKUs, which normally requires trade logins for access.

In any case, Nintendo likes to launch their consoles on Sundays, and it doesn’t matter if the Wii U launches on the 11 or 18 of November, both dates are Sundays.  The GameCube was launched on November 18, 2001, and the Wii on November 19, 2006—all on Sundays.
