Windows 8.1 Blue

Here’s some news about the final release of Windows 8.1 even before its preview release (set for June 26th, in case you didn’t know). Paul Thurott claims that the date for the launch of Windows 8.1 is simple, it’s 8/1 (i.e. August 1st). The same guy puts the release of Windows Phone 8.1 for an early 2014 timeframe.

Microsoft is making some changes to their bold and evolutionary Windows 8 OS. With the first service pack Update (code name Blue) due for a preview release on the 26th of June (at Microsoft’s annual BUILD conference), Microsoft Superfan Paul Thurott shares with us (according to his logic) what should be the shipping date of Windows 8.1 final.

Paul shares his simple logic with the name, Windows 8.1, where 8.1 simple stands for 8/1. Now in the US (where month reads before date, for reasons unknown), 8/1 refers to the 1st of August. The date seems entirely plausible as Microsoft is all set to release a public preview at the end of this month itself. Surely a final launch a little over a month later is feasible, especially since the update will be downloadable and free to all (no issues such as RTM and production of DVDs).

In another tweet, Thurrot shared that Windows Phone 8.1, the biggest update to Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform since its launch in 2012, will arrive early 2014. We’ve shared some really cool Windows Phone 8.1 concept images with you (view below). Enjoy.
