In Microsoft’s keynote at the TechEd conference in Orlando, speakers demonstrated Windows 8’s IT/developer-friendly features such as built-in capability to run Windows 8 and 7 side by side at the same time.

Linda Averett, leader of Microsoft’s developer experience team, demonstrated Windows 8’s hypervisor software running a virtual instance of Windows 7.  She said that the built in virtual software enables “IT pros [to] check out how things work in different versions.”

“I find it exceedingly convenient,” she added.

The virtual instance of Windows 7 can also run side by side with Windows 8 in a split screen mode.  This feature is especially useful for IT and developers who want to compare how a software/app runs on different versions of Windows at the same time.

Adding to Averett’s claim of Windows 8 flexibility, she demonstrated how a user customized version of Windows 8 can also be booted from a USB drive.

It seems like Microsoft is aiming to entice developers to check out their new platform by making it easier for them to troubleshoot and develop applications in a virtual environment.  However, will these “IT & developers-friendly” features equate to regular consumers’ early adoption of Windows 8?
