We knew that there would be a price increase for Windows 8 coming from Microsoft from its launch upgrade price of $39.99, but I don't think we thought it would be this much of a jump.

When Microsoft launched Windows 8 it came with an almost unheard promotional price of $39.99 which lead a lot of folks, myself included, to get their copy of the new operating system before the deal came to an end, which it is going to very soon.

The special price ends as of January 31, 2013, and starting in February 2013 the regular version of Windows 8 will cost you $119; the Pro version will see the price increase to $199. Additionally, if you want the Windows Media Center add-on it will cost you and additional $9.99 through the Windows Store.

Now if you can't afford to get Windows 8 upgrade and can only get the regular version, rest assured Microsoft has your back and will be making a Windows 8 Pro Pack upgrade available for $99. This Pro Pack will upgrade your regular Windows 8 machine to Windows 8 Pro.

Also, if you end up buying a Windows 7 machine before January 31, 2013, make sure that you sign-up for the Windows Upgrade Offer which will get you Windows 8 Pro for $14.99, which makes this the best of the deals.
