The Windows Team have announced on the blog –
Windows Home Server “Vail”. The public beta is now available for
download.

With the next version, users can be aware of the 4 new key improvements:

  • Extending media streaming outside the home or office
  • Multi-PC
    backup and restore
  • Simplified setup and user experience
  • Expanded development and customization tools for partner

Microsoft have indicated that they have moved their new underlying server platform that will only run as a 64-bit OS hence running Vail on a 32-bit PC is not recommended.

You can download the public beta at Microsoft Connect site. The minimum hardware requirements for Vail is a 1.4 GHz x64 processor, 1
GB RAM, and at least one 160 GB hard drive
