Mad Max Teaser

In an official Facebook post, Avalanche Studios has announced that the first official gameplay reveal for the definitive post-apocalyptic Mad Max franchise will be released tomorrow.

The game is currently in development by the Swedish devs at Avalanche Studios, and will be published by Warner Bros. Interactive for a release in 2014 for current/next-gen consoles and PC.

Based on Mad Max’s announcement teaser, the game is shaping up quite nicely and looks as if it contains the authentic gritty flair that’s been a signature feature of the series since its inception all the way back in the 1970’s.

“Play as Mad Max, a lone warrior who must embark on a dangerous journey after his Interceptor is stolen by a deadly gang of marauders. A reluctant hero with an instinct for survival, Max wants nothing more than to leave the madness behind and find solace in the storied ‘Plains of Silence’.”

A virtual Mel Gibson was seen in the teaser footage, where the Road Warrior was seen dishing out some silent carnage to a lone raider with his trademark raven-black Interceptor–which screamed across the Aussie wasteland in true Mad Max-ian fashion.

It will be interesting to see the game in action and how well Avalanche can adapt the definitive film series into an action-packed post-apocalyptic game, and whether or not the team can introduce a few original game mechanics and establish that rugged style that’s kept the series running strong for decades.

It would also be great to see a few guest appearances of characters from the film series–maybe the Road Warrior will stop off at Bartertown and take on Master Blaster and his hulking minion for some good old-fashioned deathmatch action in the Thunderdome. Hopefully we’ll see some movie tie-ins, especially since Mad Max is one of the most original and iconic characters in the industry.

We’ll be sure to update you when the gameplay reveal goes live, but until then this would be a great time to freshen up on Mad Max’s sordid journeys throughout the wasteland with a nice marathon of all the films.

Mad Max is slated for a release sometime in 2014 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC. For more information please visit the game’s official website or follow news updates on Facebook.
