We’ll be looking at XFX’s flagship video card, the XFX GeForce FX 5950 Ultra video card. With prices online averaging at around $ 405 for the card, comparing to Sapphire’s Radeon 9800 XT, a card priced at just about $ 10 more.
No one can deny that the graphics card industry is highly competitive.
The competitive nature of the industry has made many companies switch allegiances
away from NVIDIA towards ATI, but one company that has remained loyal to the
NVIDIA brand is XFX, a division of Pine Technology. XFX first jumped into
the graphics card market with a highly overclockable GeForce 4 Ti 4600, but
as ATI soon after took the enthusiast markets by storm with their Radeon 9700
Pro and Radeon 9800 Pro series of cards, XFX became a heavy player in the
mainstream enthusiast and budget sectors of the market. With cards on the
shelves of popular brick and mortar stores such as Circuit City, XFX has already
succeeded in marketing its name to the general public, but has not released
a genuine high-end enthusiast ready graphics card since their original NV25
launch, at least not until just recently.
Today we’ll be looking at XFX’s flagship video card, the XFX
GeForce FX 5950 Ultra video card. With prices online averaging at around $ 405
for the card, we will be comparing the XFX GeForce FX 5950 Ultra to Sapphire’s
Radeon 9800 XT, a card priced at just about $ 10 more. Also thrown in will
be Albatron’s GeForce FX 5700 Ultra graphics card, to illustrate how performance
varies when going from the top of the line to the mainstream in NVIDIA’s latest
graphics card family.

XFX has one of the strongest bundles out of all the NVIDIA graphics
card manufacturers, a major reason behind gaming enthusiast’s strong support
for the brand. The company bundles three full version games with their graphics
card and also distinguishes itself from the competition by its unique box
art and design.
