According to Microsoft and their sometimes fun, sometimes deceptive commercials, the Asus VivoTab Smart, Dell XPS 10, Surface RT and Acer Iconia W3 are all faster, cheaper and/or better at multitasking than Apple’s iPad and iPad Mini.

Lenovo Yoga vs iPad

And now we’re hearing the same thing about the Lenovo Yoga. Only this time Microsoft is a little subtler in its anti-Apple stabs and, as a consequence, I think we’re looking at the best ad of this kind so far.

There are no references to pricing in the latest video commercial, no subversive uses of Siri impersonators and, most of all, there’s an air of relaxation that I very much prefer over the tension of the previous ads.

Once again, a case could be made for the sheer idiocy of the iPad users shown in the video, that seem to be in contact with a gadget for the first time in their lives, but hey, it’s an amusing, entertaining little 30-second clip, so let’s not overanalyze it.

In a nutshell, Microsoft is trying to prove Windows-powered tablets (or rather tab/laptop hybrids) are superior to Apple’s iPads when it comes to productivity and juggling with work and fun at the same time. Which they are. But alas, that’s not quite enough for most folks.

And don’t even get me started on how pricey a 13-inch IdeaPad Yoga or a Win 8-based Yoga 11S can be or how the original 11-incher runs Windows RT, which I think we can all agree is a colossal flop. But yeah, if you can afford one of the variants pre-loaded with Windows 8, by all means go ahead and buy it.
