Facebook may not build its own smartphone after all, and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, recently stated that “it wouldn’t make sense” for a social networking firm to dive head on into competing with the likes of Apple and Android.

Zuckerberg made the statement when questioned about whether Facebook had strong emphasis on taking their mobile platform to a whole different level with a physical device.

The social networking giant’s mobile app is one of the most used, if not the most, on basically all smartphone operating systems.  With that in mind, Zuckerberg feels that Facebook does not need to disturb the natural orders of things by launching a Facebook exclusive phone.

Partnering firms such as Apple may feel indifferent if Facebook does decide to launch a competing smartphone.  Rather than competing with already established smartphone OS providers and OEMs, Zuckerberg wants to “increase the depth of experience” of its mobile app on those particular platforms.

Apple and Facebook are rumored to begin a partnership in which its social networking app will come preinstalled on the iOS.  Zuckerberg’s statement helps to reaffirm that Facebook does not intend to disrupt the Apple-Facebook union.

Facebook is under immense pressure from investors after its IPO fell short of expectations, but the college-drop-out-turned-billionaire-Zuckerberg has no intentions of steering away from what made Facebook, Facebook.
