For those of you that are into small high-end motherboards, Zotac was showing off no less than three new models at CES intended for Intel's upcoming Ivy Bridge processors. Two were based on the H77 chipset and one on the Z77 and in typical Zotac style all three features on-board Wi-Fi.

Performance zealots will remember the ASUS Z7S WS which went head on with then Intel 'Skulltrail' D5400XS Xeon luxury gaming platform (using dual unlocked QX9775 chips), but since then ASUS has done nothing of that sort, leaving EVGA with the iconic SR-2 to mop up things in the Xeon 55xx/56xx era. This is about to change with the imminent launch of the Sandy Bridge-EP Xeon E5 platform, and the ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS may well be the followup that power hungry gamers and high frequency traders are looking for.
The CES 2012 show is starting with multiple affairs for Intel: the company is apparently spreading FUD around Windows 8 on ARM systems and worse of all, they got caught faking the DirectX 11 demo on the upcoming 22nm Ivy Bridge processor.

Third party SATA 6Gbps controllers haven't exactly impressed in terms of performance and Marvell has felt at least some of the criticism here as it was the first company to offer a standalone SATA 6Gbps controller. However, it looks like the company is about to solve problem with a range of new SATA 6Gbps chips of which the 88SE9230 is going to be the most interesting one.
The much rumoured high-end version of Asus' Eee Pad Transformer Prime has just been unveiled by the company as CES, namely the Transformer 700-series, albeit only as a mock-up as yet. The big news here is a move up in screen resolution from 1280x800 to 1920x1200, something that appears to be a common feature about many of the tablets that are appearing at the show.
