The 8600GTS is about to come upon us. It turned out to be a huge surprise for the overclockers... 1GHz Core with just air-cooling!

Voltage Mods

Alright, you may be looking for some voltage mods. Below shows you where to measure VGPU and Memory voltage with your multimeter.

*Take Note that all physical Modifications Void your warranty!*

Default VGPU is 1.35v and default VMem is 2.1v

To get 1.4v VGPU, follow Step 1 and connect the 2 points with conductive ink. To get 1.5v, follow up with Step 2, after doing Step 1, and connect the next 2 points. I did not use the usual Feedback resistor mod since it induces overvoltage protection.

To get more Memory Voltage, you can pencil resistor shown below, or solder a 20K ohms Variable resistor to point shown, with other leg connected to ground. Set at Max 20K ohms, Decrease resistance to increase voltage.

For even more VGPU, first remove the 5K ohms resistor and replace with 50K ohms resistor as shown below. This will straightaway give you 1.65v, Without the need for Step 1,2 mentioned previously!
For the Hardcore people who want to overclock to the maximum without being held back by Overcurrent protection, you can remove a resistor marked below as well.

More Voltage Mods

After 1.65v to get 1.7v connect the 2 points with conductive ink shown below. To get 1.8v, do both step 1 and 2 and you get 1.8v!

Cool well! These cards use the 4 hole Dimensions similar to the 6800 and 7800/7900. I use a homebrewed brute force approach:

Runs so cool, with the heatsink mod, I just get 34C idle!

OC Result: 1GHz Core!

With 1.5v VGPU and 2.4v Memory, I broke 7K 3D Mark 2006 and 15K 3D Mark 2005, hitting well above 900MHz Core and 1200MHz Memory! CPU is X6800 lightly overclocked at 3.2GHz.

920MHz Core, 1215MHz Memory

949MHz Core, 1280MHz Memory

At default voltage you can expect around 800MHz Core and 1160MHz Memory.

Next, I went straight to 1.7v VGPU with still aircooling!

965MHz Core, 1265MHz Memory

And Finally, 1GHz Core, Benchable with just air-cooling!

1006MHz Core, 1265MHz Memory!

These cards are wild beasts when it comes to overclocking... and the irony is that this 8600GTS arrived physically damaged in the first place, one SMD component knocked off and one SMD capacitor loose.
