The Dominators - DDR3 King of the Hill

The Corsair Dominator 1800C7D 2GB Kit is perhaps one of the fastest DDR3 modules that you will find in the market today. Rated at 1800Mhz, 7-7-7-20 at 2.0V, will the DDR3 dominators promise an overclock that will sweep you off your feet? We'll find out shortly, but first, some brief specifications.

Next, some pictures...

Pictures

Setup:

  • Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850
  • Asus P5K3 Deluxe
  • eVGA Geforce 8600GTS 256MB
  • FSP Epsilon 600w
  • Seagate 7200.7 80GB

CL5, 6 & 7 testings

At CL5-5-5-15 2.2V, I could hit 702Mhz.

at CL6-6-6-18 2.2V, I achieved 862Mhz

2.0V, 7-7-7-20

7-7-7-20, 2.2V, 910Mhz

CL8, 9 testings and conclusion

Even at 2.25v VDIMM, I could barely get pass the rated speeds of the Dominators, It might be possible that I got a lemon.. (Proves that Corsair doesnt handpick their samples for us reviewers. heh). at CL8, I could only squeeze out 920Mhz, and My Asus P5K3 doesnt seem to be able to boot at high frequencies on CL9.

Overall, the Dominators are still good memory sticks catered for the enthusiasts, we were pretty impressed with the speeds it achieved at CL6. Currently, we're doing further testings of this pair of RAM with higher VDIMM using the Blitz Extreme, and we will post updates if we have additional findings. Meanwhile, some findings by longsiew, Dominators on Blitz Extreme... and more findings here.
