Sony Electronics Asia Pacific Pte Ltd today unveiled its new sub-brand for flat-panel liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions with the “BRAVIA“ family. BRAVIA (Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture) represents Sony’s vision of providing products with superior resolution for the digital and flat panel era.

Featuring the world’s first 7th generation state-of-the-art LCD panel and leveraging on Sony’s technological expertise to deliver outstanding picture quality, this is the most comprehensive line-up of LCD televisions to be launched in this region. The extensive variety of the new BRAVIA LCD displays includes the V-Series, S-series and B-series.

All BRAVIA models benefit from Sony’s technological know-how: screen resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels equivalent to 1 megapixel resolution, 178-degree viewing angle, 8-millisecond response time and a contrast ratio of up to 1300:1.

The new Sony BRAVIA line is available in screen sizes from 15 inches to 40 inches, which can either be hung on a wall with an optional mounting bracket or placed on a supplied table stand.

With BRAVIA, consumers need not compromise picture quality for style, offering Singaporeans a beautifully designed and very fashionable TV for convenient use and complementary accessory for virtually any room in the home.

“Sony has laid a strong foundation in display technologies since the launch of Trinitron. We are now leveraging our strengths on the latest range of LCD televisions, which utilise Sony’s panels incorporating 7th generation technology, “ said Hiroshi Kikuchi, General Manager of Display Marketing Group, Sony Electronics Asia Pacific.

“For Sony, BRAVIA is the next step in the evolution of TV and we are confident that it will perform well to climb to the number one position in the LCD TV market in Asia Pacific by offering consumers high-resolution picture quality, superior audio fidelity, easy user interface and designer looks.“

Display Panel at its Best

Working together seamlessly with WEGA Engine System, these incredible panels offer high contrast, wide viewing angle and quick response time, along with a sharper more detailed picture.

A key technology differentiator is Sony’s advanced Wide Colour Gamut Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light (WCG-CCFL), which produces purer white light and more accurate range of colours. This generates approximately 30% increase from the conventional CCFL backlights to provide viewing with greater reality.

Complementing the stunning picture performance is the enhanced sound quality. The BRAVIA V-series features a new ultra-narrow, two-tone black and silver bezel design that incorporates two invisible 13-watt speakers driven by Sony's S-Master™ digital amplifier with SRS® TruSurround XT®. The design also offers mounting holes for increased compatibility with VESA™ compliant brackets. With just two speakers, these televisions provide a dynamic home entertainment experience that enable consumers to hear virtual surround audio.

Designed for Convenience with Full Features

The advanced Light Sensor™ feature automatically detects the brightness of the surrounding environment and adjusts its intensity, maximizing picture quality at all times for more comfortable viewing.

The top V-series range is also equipped with the Picture-and-Picture (PAP) function that allows consumer to watch two programs simultaneously in two separate windows on the same screen. A common feature in all three series is the Picture Freeze function which freezes the screen temporarily on a broadcast program for quick jot-downs while the on-going motion picture continues to play in the sub-window.

For convenience, Sony's WEGA GATE graphic user interface provides simple menu navigation and easy access to AV controls. Additionally, an input skip function allows quick access to sources connected to any of the various inputs including HDMI, component video, PC input, high-speed USB, composite and S-video.

SONY LCD TELEVISION TECHNICAL INFORMATION

1. 1 Megapixel HD Panel
The V-series and S-series deliver a sharper digital HD picture with 1366 x 768 dot pixels which is equivalent to 1 megapixel resolution. The 7th generation LCD panel offers higher contrast, wider viewing angle and quick response time.

2. Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) – CCFL
With its exclusive WCG-CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lighting) backlight, the V-series is able to produce richer green and red gamut which are not achievable by the conventional CCFL. It can reproduce colour approximately 30% more than that of standard CCFL backlights. This new technology is being developed by enhancing Sony’s technologies in displays with a revolutionary luminescence material.

3. WEGA Engine
The WEGA Engine is an advanced picture quality system that integrates a host of unique technologies and circuitry to enable full, precise digital image processing. It is compatible with various signal types, including traditional terrestrial signals and digital high definition signals. The WEGA Engine offers better resolution, less noise for finer images, enhances realism and higher contrast. Available in V-series.

4. Picture-and-Picture (PAP)
The V-series incorporates a 2-tuner picture function which allows viewer to watch 2 programs simultaneously on the same screen. This convenient mode enables easy surfing of channels without having to miss a single second of the both programs.

5. Picture Freeze
Picture Freeze feature freezes motion picture in the main screen and can display on-going motion picture in the sub-window. Available in all series.

6. WEGA GATE™
Available on both the V-series and S-series, this simple on-screen guide provides direct access to TV channels, external inputs and the TV settings menu with the push of a button. The buttons are designed to maneuver intuitively to perform a variety of tasks on an ergonomically-designed control panel.

7. TruSurround XT™ by SRS™
TruSurround XT™ and TruSurround™, on the V-series and S-series respectively, create a broad, fully immersive sound image within the listening area that wraps around the listener's head. TruSurround XT™ delivers a powerful audio experience with enhanced bass and better dialogue quality through the sets’ high quality speakers.

8. High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI™)
It is the first industry-supported, uncompressed all-digital high resolution video and multi-channel audio interface that carries uncompressed audio and video signals between compatible digital high definition devices and displays on a single cable. With this in the V-series, you can connect your HDTV to your DVD player, digital set-top box, digital home theater system, or any compatible digital source.

9. PC Input
PC Input allows you to connect your PC and display the PC screen on your TV, which
supports various signal types. The screen can be adjusted to display the same aspect ratio
as the PC or stretched to fit the whole screen for full viewing.
10. S-Master™ Full Digital Amplifier
A Sony technology, this full digital amplifier delivers high sound quality, is small in size, and has high power efficiency. Unlike ordinary digital amplifiers, the S-Master processes all signals digitally, from input to output, consequently delivering pure and detailed clear sound.

11. Light Sensor™
The sensor automatically optimizes the brightness setting according to the ambient light in the surroundings. In a dazzling room, the screen will adjust itself by increasing the brightness. It will react in a vice versa manner when in a dim room to make viewing of the screen less tiring for the human eyes. Available in V-series and S-series.

12. Flexible Viewing Angle
The screen is able to swivel horizontally each side. With the exception of KLV-V40A10 and KLV-S40A10 (40” models), both the V-series and S-series can tilt backwards by eight degrees and forward by three degrees. This is extremely useful to avoid the reflection of light on the screen and to capture the full view of the display, enabling a flexible viewing angle.
