Aeneon DDR2-1066MHz and DDR3-1333MHz 2GB Kits

10 December 2007 - Aeneon has come up with memory kits that could run high frequencies yet maintaining low Vdimm. Both their DDR2 1066MHz and DDR3 1333MHz kits run at 1.8V and 1.5V respectively, which are also the default voltages. We take them for an overclocking trip to see how much more we could get out of these attractive pairs of memory!

Hynix Announces 1Gb GDDR5 Memories

15 November 2007 - Hynix today introduced the industry’s first 1 Gigabit GDDR5 Graphics DRAM. It operates at 5Gbps bandwidth and processes up to 20 Gigabytes of data per second with a 32-bit I/O. The newly introduced GDDR5 is built on the company’s leading edge 66nm process technology and designed to minimize power consumption. With its improved speed and power characteristics, GDDR5 is projected to succeed GDDR3 and dominate the graphics DRAM market from the 2nd half of 2008. Hynix plans to start mass production of GDDR5 in the first half of next year to meet the increasing demand for high performance graphics DRAM.

Qimonda Delivered GDDR5 Samples To Customers

1 November 2007 - Qimonda today announced as first DRAM manufacturer the availability of GDDR5 samples. Qimonda started shipping of the first 512Mb GDDR5 samples to customers. “We are pleased that we can support the GDDR5 activities of our customers with this first sample shipment, which is a major step to ensure the fast introduction of GDDR5 into the Graphics Market,” said Robert Feurle, Vice President of Business Unit Graphics at Qimonda.

Qimonda Unveils AENEON XTUNE DDR3-1333 Modules

3 October 2007 - AENEON, a Qimonda AG brand, announced the availability of its new XTUNE™ DDR3-1333 CL8 memory modules. The XTUNE DDR3-1333 memory module is available with a density of 1GByte (AXH760UD00-13G) and the single module is tested to run at 1333 MHz at a latency timing of 8-8-8-15 at the standard DDR3 voltage value of 1.5 V. The XTUNE DDR3-1333 Dual Channel Kit 2x1GB is available now through the authorized AENEON sales representatives and distributors for $400.

OCZ Announced ReaperX Memory Series

Micron 4GB DDR3 Module For PCs & Notebooks

31 October 2007 - Micron today announced the industry’s first 2Gb DDR3 component. Micron’s newest DRAM innovation is the highest density DDR3 component available on the market. By using 2Gb components, Micron can enable 8GB and 16GB modules for servers and 4GB modules for desktop and notebook PCs, which are the industry's highest density DDR3 modules available. This increase in memory density is ideal for optimizing today’s memory intensive operating systems. Micron is now sampling modules based on its 2Gb DDR3 component for server, desktop and notebook applications. Commercial availability for the product is planned for the first quarter of 2008.

Elpida Unveiled Fastest DRAM @ 4.8GHz

5 October 2007 - Elpida and Rambus today introduced the industry's fastest DRAM, the 512Mb, 4.8GHz XDR™ DRAM, based on Rambus' XDR memory architecture. With a 9.6GB/s data transfer rate delivers six times the peak bandwidth of industry-standard DDR2-800 memory devices. The 4.8GHz XDR device is manufactured using Elpida's 70 nm process technology and is available in a 104-ball FBGA package. Elpida's 4.8GHz XDR DRAM is an excellent fit for consumer electronics applications requiring high bandwidth for 3-D graphics, high-definition image processing, and advanced multimedia. Elpida's 512Mb 4.8GHz XDR DRAM devices will be available for sampling in December 2007. Volume production is expected to begin in April 2008.

Qimonda Unveils 1Gb GDDR3 & Plans For GDDR5

30 August 2007 - Qimonda adds a third Graphics RAM product, a 1Gb GDDR3, to its portfolio which includes 256Mb and 512Mb densities. The 256Mb and 1Gb devices are available now with data rates up to 1GHz, the 512Mb component with data rates up to 1.2GHz. Over the coming years - starting in 2008 – GDDR3 will be step by step succeeded by GDDR5, first in enthusiast and performance graphics applications. Qimonda is well prepared to support this upcoming I/O transition in the graphics market by planning to sample first GDDR5 devices by the end of calendar year 2007.
