A-DATA Expands USB Flash Drives To 32GB

29 April 2008 - A-DATA Technology today announced its largest capacity USB flash drives in two models, the 32GB PD2 and PD9 that it is expanding its USB flash drive family lines with new 32GB capacity offerings. The 32GB PD2 and PD9 which is about the size of 69.6mm x 17mm x 10mm (L x W x H ), and is small and light enough to be taken anywhere.

WD Shipping VelociRaptor 10K RPM Drives

22 April 2008 - WD is now shipping WD VelociRaptor™ hard drives, the next generation of its 10,000 RPM SATA "Raptor" series of drives. The 2.5-inch WD VelociRaptor drive is enclosed in the IcePack™, a 3.5-inch mounting frame with a built-in heat sink. WD VelociRaptor hard drives will be shipping exclusively through Alienware this month and will be available through the company's online store and at select distributors and resellers mid-May. MSRP for the WD VelociRaptor 300 GB is $299.99 USD.

Fujitsu Released 2.5-inch 500GB HDDs

25 February 2008 - Fujitsu today announced the release of its new series of MHZ2 BT 2.5" hard disk drives with world-class capacity of up to 500 GB(1). Sales of the new series will begin at the end of May 2008. The MHZ2 BT series requires only 1.8 W of power for read and write operations, ranking it among the most power-efficient drives in its class.

New eSATA Spec Requires No External Power

15 January 2008 - SATA-IO today announced its Power Over eSATA initiative. SATA-IO has begun work on a new specification that will provide power to eSATA devices without the need for a separate power connection. Led by the organization’s Cable and Connector group, the specification is targeted for completion in the second half of 2008. The new SATA-IO specification will eliminate this requirement by providing power for a single drive directly from the host system using the Power Over eSATA cable.

22 April 2008 - Fujitsu announced the release of the MHZ2 CJ Series of 320 GB(1) 2.5" hard disk drives with automatic hardware-based encryption to effectively secure data against theft or loss, along with the industry's highest rotational speed of 7200-rpm and a 3.0 Gb/s Serial ATA interface. The new series of drives for computers and external storage devices will be available at the end of May 2008.
